People with dogs like to take their pups everywhere lately. One person brought their pup to the 11th Annual Bob Baker Day, and they didn’t expect to meet a new friend. While walking through the free event, the real pooch met a dog marionette. The puppet was so realistic that it confused the real dog.

Bob Baker Day is a free event hosted by the Bob Baker Marionette Theater. The event was first held in 2015 following the death of Bob Baker in 2014. The day celebrates Bob Baker’s birthday and the legacy he left behind. Most people aren’t familiar with the name Bob Baker, but almost everyone recognizes his work.
Bob Baker could have been the original model for Geppetto, the puppeteer who made Pinocchio. He began making marionettes while he was still in high school and was a master puppeteer. Bob Baker’s puppets starred in the Elvis Presley movie G.I. Blues in 1960. The rich tradition of his puppetry endures at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater. The life-like movement of the puppets is a combination of their construction and the skill of the puppeteer.

The movements of the dog marionette were so smooth and dog-like that it is understandable the real dog was a bit confused. The real dog tried to approach the new puppy, but kept backing off as the excited puppet moved happily, bouncing on his strings. You can see another angle of this encounter around the 25-second mark in the promotional video.
The puppeteer “walking” the dog marionette has great skill. His control of the puppet’s movements made the wooden dog very realistic. The puppet dog had the real dog utterly intrigued.
