Luke Bryan’s “Should’ve Been A Cowboy”: A Powerful Cover
Carrie Underwood, Darius Rucker, Lainey Wilson, and Jelly Roll were some of the stars who joined Luke Bryan for Toby Keith: An American Icon. Carrie welcomed Luke to the stage with a heartfelt greeting. She said, “Please welcome a Georgia boy who became a brother to our Oklahoma son, Luke Bryan.” Cheers erupted as the country singer walked onto the stage. After many warm hugs and greetings, he finally made it to center stage.
Luke began his performance with a touching speech: “What an honor to be here, celebrating the best ever. Toby Keith was just a bad a** dude.”
He then stepped back from center stage to grab a black cowboy hat and placed it atop his head. From there, he said, “So this hat, this hat has been hanging in my closet for probably 15 years. My sister down in Georgia bought me this hat when I was playing bars and doing about 10 Toby Keith songs a night.”
He continued to explain how he used to wear the hat every night while he performed. Ever since he lost his sister, he hadn’t brought the hat back out on stage. However, as he was leaving to go to this show, he knew what he had to do.
A Powerful Tribute
While Luke admitted to being a country boy from Georgia, he told the crowd that Toby Keith made him want to be a cowboy.
“And I am going to be a cowboy tonight,” he said.
After his speech, Luke Bryan beautifully delivered a cover of Toby’s Should’ve Been A Cowboy.
Luke masterfully sang the song as images of Toby appeared behind him on stage. Friends, family, and fans of Toby Keith smiled as Luke performed.
Many talented artists graced the stage with their presence that night, and it was a beautiful night honoring Toby.
