Playing a character at Disney theme parks may seem like an easy job. For some people, it is. But it also means learning things about human interaction and working with children. One of the things they train character actors in is the “Disney hug rule.”

According to Inside The Magic, “Characters at Disney are told never to let go of a hug first. Walt Disney said, you never know how much that child may need that hug.” It appears that Walt Disney knew something about the importance of hugging!
The Disney hug rule is not in place just for the “human” characters. It includes the actors who portray iconic cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and Stitch. And it probably isn’t just for the kids either, as many adults also enjoy hugging the loveable characters.
In the video below, you can see the extended hug between the princess and the toddler. It is amazing that, while engaged in the hug, she was also conversing with the older siblings. She is very good at ensuring that no one has a feeling of being “left out.” After finishing the initial hug, she stood up for a photo and then knelt for another hug with the little one.
Hugging is a benefit at all Disney theme parks. Vampirina offers great hugs!
This happy little girl almost seems to fall asleep in Mickey’s arms. But then she danced off, did a spin, and returned for a quick goodbye hug before scampering back to her parents.
You Can Use The Disney Hug Rule At Home, Too
Think about the Disney hug rule the next time you hug your children, nieces, nephews, or grandchildren. Hugs are an integral part of human communication. They require no words but can say so much. Share this with someone who might need a hug (then hug them, too!).
