When Katie Van Slyke was picking up horse mom Annie and her baby Huckleberry, she encountered an unusual sight. Annie was in her stall, but her colt Huckleberry was out of sight. The adult horse was joyfully munching on hay. When she reached down for another bite, Katie saw Huckleberry’s rear legs sticking out of a large pile of hay.

Somehow, Annie had covered Huckleberry completely with the hay and was using the little Quarter horse as a “living” plate. Huckleberry was lying on the floor without a care in the world. The colt might have been playing hide-and-seek, taking a nap, or rolling in the hay. Annie gave it no thought either as she continued eating hay from the pile on the little horse.
The staff members openly wondered how Huckleberry got covered in hay. Workers think that Annie had done it grabbing hay from the hanging bale in her stall. The burial and subsequent use of her son as a dinner plate may or may not have been intentional. Nobody knows but Annie, and she’s saying neigh about it.

Katie Van Slyke and her husband Jonathon live on a horse farm across the street from her childhood home. They call their farm a “mini farm” because in addition to full-size livestock, the family raises mini horses, mini donkeys, Nigerian dwarf goats, and mini cows. The farm houses a pig, Simmental cattle, barn cats, and two dogs named Winnie and Kimmy. They breed, raise, sell Quarter horses and show horses on the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) circuit.
