Childhood memories are a sacred refuge. We can hide there, remembering days of outside play. We went everywhere as long as we got home before the streetlights came on. People (OK, OLD people) often disparage today’s youth for their electronic toys and gadgets. “In my day, we only had one toy—outside!” Dan Bell recalls a day from his past when he put a cup of snow in his parents’ freezer.

We know it snowed on November 11, 1987. Dan thoughtfully wrote the date on the aluminum foil covering the glass of freezer snow. We see the date clearly as he pulls the cup of snow out to examine it. As he carefully lifts the aluminum foil, his mom asks who he is talking to. Dan tells her he’s doing a TikTok and shows her the snow he found.
He looks in the cup, and we really can’t see anything. He shows his mom, and her reaction is less than enthusiastic. But what she does next has us roaring with laughter. She takes the cup, gently squeezing the foil to make it snug around the cup. She turns, takes some steps, and puts the cup of snow BACK IN THE FREEZER!

We did not expect that, and Dan probably didn’t either. At that point, he cut off the video.
What were you doing on November 11, 1987? I was in the Navy, stationed at the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Virginia. I don’t think it snowed there that day. We probably had to march in or perform crowd control for a Veterans Day parade, but I don’t recall. It was 37 years ago.
Please share if you laughed when she returned the snow to the freezer.
