Man Runs Marathon With A Pineapple Balanced On His Head — Yes, A Pineapple

View from the side of a man as he runs in a marathon with a pineapple balanced on his head

Everyone who enters a marathon has their own way of doing things. This applies to the training done in preparation for the big day, but it also applies to the actual marathon itself. Clothing is a big consideration for these daring runners — you want to make sure you’ll be comfy and not get too warm! But few people have an accessory quite like Moshe Lederfien. Every time you spot him in a marathon, without fail, he will have a pineapple on his head.

Moshe started to run with a pineapple on his head way back in 2019. Once he did, there was no turning back. In fact, he managed to run a whopping 11 marathons with the fruit on his head in that first year alone. Needless to say, Moshe has a way of capturing people’s attention, as seen during the Vienna City Marathon below.

From Vienna and New York to Berlin and Valencia, this fun-loving guy has competed in marathons all around the world. But why did he start running in marathons in the first place? Well, at 53 years old, Moshe was struggling with diabetes and high blood pressure. Luckily, he discovered that running is both good for his health and something he enjoys.

As far as the whole pineapple on his head thing goes, I imagine he does it, in part, because it’s a rather fun, silly challenge. That said, there actually is a message that Moshe is hoping to spread.

“Fruit is one of the most important foods to humans and I want to spread this message to the world,” Moshe once said in an interview. “The connection between human and nature, body and mind cannot be separated. Therefore, the pineapple must remain on my head even at high speed.”
