Man Shares Hilarious Throwback Video Of Unexpected First Grade Talent Show Performance

A little kid stands on a stage, singing into a mic. He holds one arm out, pointing out in the audience. Balloons adorn the front of the stage and a colorful banner hangs on the wall behind him

There’s a reason why talent shows are so popular — they’re a blast to watch. This is true no matter if you are watching a show like The Voice or a kid at their school’s talent show. Okay, so contestants in the latter tend to not be quite as talented as professionals. But you’d be surprised at the talent level of some of these kids. Point being, you should never underestimate the performances at a school talent show.

Erick Esqueda is the perfect example. Back when he was in the first grade, he found himself preparing for the school talent show. His talent? Singing. His song of choice? Gasolina by Daddy Yankee. This hit song from 2004 helped popularize the reggaeton genre, but it’s certainly not one you would expect from someone 6 to 7 years old. Watch Erick pull off this unexpected performance in the video below!

Enthusiastic First-Grader Gets Audience on Their Feet With Spectacular First Grade Talent Show Performance

Did little Erick know all of the words? Well… not exactly. In fact, according to a comment on his own video, Erick says, “I still don’t know the lyrics, can you believe it?” Still, what he lacked lyrically, he certainly made up for it with his contagious enthusiasm. In fact, the entire crowd gets in on his performance, singing and clapping along!

Best of all, according to the caption of this video, this performance earned Erick first place in the talent show! A well-deserved win, if you ask me… and the thousands of people in the comment section of the video.

“[You’re] telling me this isn’t Daddy Yankee HIMSELF?!?” someone shares, while another jokingly asks, “Do you do weddings?”
