A recent mishap at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT caused nearby restaurants and attractions to temporarily come to a halt. A fire had broken out at the French Pavilion, and there was enough smoke to capture the attention of a number of visitors who were passing by the area. This beloved Disney park would later share that a walk-in cooler had caught on fire backstage.

As guests were guided to safety, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District fire department made their way to extinguish the fire, something they were able to do before anyone was injured. Nearby guests were able to capture the black smoke rising from the fire. One guest even captured a glimpse of the fire itself, as seen in the video below.
“What?” a visitor on the Disney Skyliner says in the video above. “Oh my God, it’s right there.”
This large amount of smoke is why a number of guests were seen wearing smoke inhalation breathing masks. Some were also covered in emergency blankets.
After Fire Breaks Out at Disney’s EPCOT, Parts of the Park Temporarily Come to a Halt
Naturally, anyone in the French Pavilion area was evacuated. But they were not the only ones. A nearby ride was also affected by this fire: Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.
Disney parks tend to be pretty busy at any point in the year. That said, now is a particularly popular season. For starters, March is when Spring Break takes place, bringing in families from all across the country. Plus, there is EPCOT’s International Flower & Garden Festival. Still, the fire did not put too much of a damper on the affected guests’ night. By 8:20 p.m., everything was reopened. And best of all, of course, everyone stayed safe!
