Texas native and Austin resident Matthew McConaughey shared a night on the town in his own backyard recently. Matthew and his wife, Camila Alves, took their oldest son, Levi Alves McConaughey, 16, to the South by Southwest film festival. The threesome took in a screening of Matthew’s new movie, The Rivals of Amziah King. In the film, Matthew plays a foster parent who changes the life of a young girl just when she needs it the most. As a father of three, Matthew’s family is very familiar with his work and being on set. Per E! News, he told HISTORYTalks in 2020, “I have my kids come out, we put them to work,” he explained.” We give them a little cash for catering. My daughter’s gone in to work with seamstresses and the costume departments.”

Matthew McConaughey Knows How Important He Is To His Son
Matthew understands how his parenting will impact his kids’ future, and he wants to be the best dad he possibly can be.
“I’ve got a large hand in shepherding my three children up until they’re 18 and out of the house,” he said. “Yeah, see if I hold on to my words in a few years. That’s the thing I think I do most honorably is having three autonomous, conscientious, confident children.”
Matthew told Extra that he wanted to raise his children to be responsible. “Responsibility breeds freedom,” he said. “You take care of your stuff, chores, you take care of yourself, you will have more freedoms in the future.”
Matthew McConaughey added that when his son was born, it all changed for the better. “When you become a parent your peripheral vision becomes better… whereas before you’re a parent, you can have tunnel vision. You can take one-trip tickets to anywhere you want to go. No more one-trip tickets when you become a parent. It’s round-trip tickets, because you know you have to get back and you’ve got dependents.”
