Like many celebrities who live in Southern California, Oscar winner Mel Gibson lost his home to the Palisades fire. Mel’s home reportedly burned to the ground while he was working in Austin, Texas. He shared his grief in an interview with NewsNation’s Elizabeth Vargas Reports. Mel told Elizabeth he was recording an episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast as reports came in that his neighborhood was on fire.

“I knew my neighborhood was on fire, so I thought, ‘I wonder if my place is still there.’ But when I got home, sure enough, it wasn’t there,”
Mel Gibson said thinking about the Palisades fire made him “ill at ease” as he and Joe talked. When he got home, he realized just how bad it was.
“Obviously, it’s kind of devastating. It’s emotional,” Mel said. “You live there for a long time, and you had all your stuff.”
The Palisades Fire Took Everything At Mel Gibson’s Home
He explained that not only the house but also his cars and personal belongings burned in the blaze. He’d accumulated many things in the years he lived in the home. With an awkward laugh, he said, “It was completely toasted.”
Even though the fire destroyed his material possessions, Mel admitted he felt relief knowing the people he loved survived.
“The good news is that those in my family and those I love are all well, and we’re all happy and healthy and out of harm’s way; that’s all I can care about, really,” he said.
Through it all, Mel has maintained a positive attitude. He said that he is sad for his community, but he will not give up hope. Mel Gibson won’t let the Palisades fire win. Instead, he said, “Like the phoenix, we’ll rise again.” Hopefully, his friends and loved ones agree and together they can rebuild.
