On January 20, 2025, Donald J. Trump will be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States. Precisely eight years before, on January 20, 2017, he became the 45th president of the United States. This is the first time since Grover Cleveland that a United States President has served two non-consecutive terms. Donald Trump wanted to be back in office to further his mission to “Make America Great Again.” With a win in both the popular vote and the electoral college, it appears many Americans hope to see change with a new president.

In recent years, Hollywood figures have voiced strong political views to sway voters. On January 16, Donald Trump shared a message on his platform, Truth Social, naming Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone as “special envoys” to his administration. He hopes they will help what he called a “very troubled place.”
Donald Trump Made A Bold Statement
He shared the news about Jon, Mel, and Sly on Truth Social, “They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE! These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!”
In an interview with Variety, Mel Gibson revealed that Donald Trump never actually conferred with him before making his big announcement.
Mel said, “I got the tweet at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised.”
But Mel is ready to report to duty, “Nevertheless, I heed the call. My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can.”
Mel, who lost his home in the devastating California wildfires joked, “Any chance the position comes with an Ambassador’s residence?”
