Meteor Shower, Aurora, & Lightning Meet Over The Grand Canyon In Stunningly Rare Shot

A beautiful view of the Grand Canyon.

Some things truly only happen once in a lifetime, and when they do, we’re grateful to have a camera on hand! Photographer Carter Murphy managed to capture an incredibly rare moment in the sky when a meteor shower occurred at the same time as a colorful aurora. As if that wasn’t spectacular enough, distant lightning was also visible in the shot. Oh, and did we mention that this all took place over the Grand Canyon?

Obviously, Carter just had to share his majestic photo from that night on social media. It would be pretty difficult to believe that all these amazing things happened in the sky at the same time without proof! This talented outdoor photographer’s snapshot of a meteor shower in the midst of a beautiful aurora is positively otherworldly.

“Last night is what dreams are made of,” Carter wrote in his caption. “Aurora over the Grand Canyon during the peak of the Perseids meteor shower, and lightning flashing on the horizon from thunderstorms near the Utah border. Doesn’t get any better.”

This photographer has a talent for getting amazing pictures of the sky!

In his travels, Carter Murphy has captured many jaw-dropping photos. However, he seems to have a knack for catching rare phenomena in the sky. Scrolling through his feed on Instagram, you’ll see tons of breathtaking shots of lightning bolts and rainbows, sometimes in the same picture!

Carter also has many an aurora under his belt, but his photo of a meteor shower occurring at the same time as this natural wonder is still incredibly special. It’s not every day that these two celestial events coincide right over the Grand Canyon!

“Is it legal to get so many amazing shots from one place?” a fellow photographer joked in the comments section.

We’re so glad that Carter was able to document this magnificent moment and share it with us!
