What she didn’t know was that her dog, Rhemi, was just as frightened and upset to be away from home. Their heartwarming reunion will definitely bring you to tears!

Erika Retort shared the saga of her missing golden retriever on Facebook in the hopes that her online community could help her find the pup. Apparently, this dog had wandered off while her owner was at her parents’ house. Tons of other users banded together to help Erika find Rhemi. Eventually, after days of searching, the prodigal pooch finally returned!
Erika shared the most heart-melting footage of her reunion with her missing golden retriever. As soon as the dog saw her mom in the distance, she started whining and wagging her tail like crazy! Her owner coaxed her closer with soothing words as Rhemi ran in circles, unsure of what to do with herself. Erika explained in one of her posts that this unusual behavior was to be expected. Being lost had frightened and confused the poor dog!
“Vicki from Great Dames Rescue explained to me that when I find Rhemi, she is not going to recognize me,” the woman wrote. “She will be in survival mode and be extremely scared and skittish until her cortisol levels come down and she can smell me if you watch the video below, you can see how terrified she was, and how she had no idea who I was until she got close to me to relax and completely surrender.”
Erika’s community rallied around her while her golden retriever was missing.
Erika was extremely grateful to all the people on Facebook who worked hard to reunite her with her beloved pooch. Apparently, many of the users who read her post actually went out to look for the dog! Others shared helpful advice for getting the missing golden retriever to come home on her own.
Rhemi’s mom wasn’t the only person who was thrilled to see the dog again. Apparently, one of the neighbors was so happy that they baked the pup a “welcome home” cake! Erika shared an adorable photo on Facebook.
According to her owner, Rhemi is doing so much better than she was when they first found her. We’re so glad that this sweet dog is home safe and sound!
