Mom Lovingly Creates “Apartment” For Daughter Who Can Never Live On Her Own

A white door with text over it.

One mom realized that her disabled daughter would never be able to move out, so she came up with a beautiful way to give the young woman her own space. This creative mother redecorated the girl’s bedroom door so that it looked like the front entrance to an apartment! She shared the sweetest video on social media showcasing the finished project. It looks amazing!

In the clip, Mom included some footage of what the outside of her daughter’s bedroom used to look like. It was a plain, white door with little embellishment. However, by the end of the video, the area had undergone a complete transformation. This entrance now had a doorbell, a unit number, and a welcome mat, just like a real apartment door! It had also been painted a beautiful, bright color. There was even a mailbox!

“Due to my daughter’s diagnosis she won’t ever have a home of her own, so I created an apartment door for her bedroom,” wrote the mom in her video.

This clip has received over 33 million views on social media. Commenters were overwhelmed with emotion when they saw what this mom did for her daughter!

“You’re giving her the freedom of being an adult while also acknowledging you’ll be there for her in an instant, no matter what,” wrote one user.

Another added, “Every child should have a mom like you.”

After showing off this “apartment,” Mom introduced “the girl behind the door.”

In a follow-up post, Mom decided to share a bit more about her daughter’s condition. 18-year-old Leah has been diagnosed with CHD2 myoclonic encephalopathy, Jeavons syndrome, and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Although the girl is undergoing a whole host of different treatments to control her epilepsy, her mother says that she “still suffers.” Meanwhile, brain damage and an intellectual disability have left Leah “mentally around five to seven years old.”

Replying to @_kassandrah_ Please meet the girl behind the door! Thank you all for the overwhelming support and love for my daughter’s door! We’re working on getting a P.O. Box set up for her to be able to receive mail from all who wish to send! As for the color of the door, I unfortunately lost the swatches and can’t remember the exact color, all I know is that it’s her favorite, cyan! I hope this video helps you get to know our girl just a bit better! @Leah @cami #LeahStrong

Despite all of this, Leah is quite a tough young woman. In 2021, she almost passed away because of an intense seizure. After pulling through, she told her mother, “I still fight.” Mom is incredibly proud of her!

“I’m not sure why God blessed me to be her mama, but I’m beyond thankful,” the woman said in her video.

This family does not have an easy road ahead of them, but their love, like Leah, is incredibly strong!
