The life of a cat show judge isn’t always glamorous. Even show cats can be unpredictable, and this judge experienced that during a recent Cat Fancier’s Association (CFA) show. While judging a cat in the Exotic Short Hair category, Judge Larry Adkinson received an unexpected display of love and affection from Illice Simba of Elan.

Judge Larry has been judging shows with this cat since he was a wee kitten. He mentioned that he has been a fan of this cat since seeing and judging him, Best Kitten. He added that he doesn’t always judge him best but often does. The judge comments on the cat’s contrast, discussing his fur’s coloration and texture. At that point, Illice Simba decided to show Judge Larry some love.
The fluffy little bundle of love gave Judge Larry kitty kisses and gentle hugs as the surprised man floundered speechlessly. You can see the entire judging session in this longer clip. The judge’s reaction was hilarious as he had no idea whether to return the cat’s affection. He did enjoy the interaction, though.
We can’t say whether the cat’s random display of affection affected the final results. It probably didn’t, even though Judge Larry admitted his fondness for Illice Simba earlier. In the longer clip, he jokes that he “has extremely good taste in judges.” He also jokes, “After that kiss, I can’t say anything else,” as he awards the title of Best Cat to the little cream-colored fluffball.
Cat show judges work individually, judging each cat in the show. Cats go before all the judges and may be awarded different titles from each. The final show results are a compilation of all judges’ awards.
