After working hard with his trainer, one brave young owl was finally ready to attempt his longest flight yet! In a precious video from the Hawk Conservancy Trust, Mozzarella the little owl flew from one end of the organization’s woodland arena to the other. Although this might not seem like an especially great distance, it was quite an accomplishment for the tiny bird. Mozzarella’s trainer, Tom, was very proud of him!

Of course, it took a couple of tries for the owl to complete his flight. Tom wanted the bird to take off from a wooden post at one end of the arena and land on an almost identical post at the other end. However, that was easier said than done. Mozzarella began his flight with the best of intentions, but he ended up going in the wrong direction and landing on a fence post, instead. So, he had to start the exercise again.
Despite this initial setback, Mozzarella nailed it on the next try! Tom captured some incredible footage of the owl’s flight across the arena.
“Mozzarella and sibling Cheddar are training to join our flying displays to become ambassadors for their species — one of the many we work to conserve in the wild!” wrote the Hawk Conservancy Trust in the video’s caption.
Mozzarella isn’t just a small owl — he’s a little owl!
As you may have noticed in the clip above, Mozzarella is quite a small animal. However, that’s not the only reason he’s called a “little” owl — it’s also the name of his species. According to a Facebook post from the Hawk Conservancy Trust, these birds are actually “the smallest species of owls in the UK!”
If you think that Mozzarella is tiny now, though, you should have seen him as a chick! The Hawk Conservancy Trust shared some absolutely heart-melting footage of the little owl and his sibling when they were only 10 days old. You won’t believe how adorably small and fuzzy they were!
It’s amazing to see how far Mozzarella has come. Congratulations to this courageous little owl for completing his longest flight yet!
