To understand why this resonates so deeply, we should begin by describing the Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Located in Morrison, Colorado, the stunning natural structure offers unmatched acoustics. The facility sits 6,450 feet above sea level, and the walk to your seat can be breathtaking, but not in a good way. The good kind of breathtaking experience begins with the first sound. Listen as Native American Isaac Tonasket sings the Spokane tribal chief song.

TikTok user Nick Ezell expresses his reaction, which fits: “When I hear indigenous peoples sing, it sounds like the Land itself sings with them.” As the sound resonates off the ochre sandstone of the amphitheater, each tone carries healing we feel to our core. Isaac Tonasket has an incredible voice that is perfect for this medicine song.

The site is a designated National Historic Landmark under the National Park Service, which is part of the Department of the Interior. Several shuttle options are available to reach the venue, and it is only a 15-minute drive from Denver by car.

How This Native American Began Singing Tribal Songs

Isaac Tonasket claims he doesn’t know what he’s doing, but he’s doing it well. We would argue that for not knowing what he is doing, he is doing it well. The young Native American doesn’t just sing tribal songs in an empty amphitheater. Isaac has several recorded songs on Spotify, Chartmetric, and Apple Music. You can find him on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.

Isaac found his niche when he sang an old Cree Federation song at Multnomah Falls. He posted it on TikTok, and it went viral. Isaac sang the song to honor his dad, who passed in 2013. Father and son were part of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. Isaac’s mom, Monica Tonasket, says, “He channels our ancestors. When you know who you are, you become stronger. I feel like Isaac has that.” Monica is with the Spokane Tribe of Indians. She understands the gift that her son’s talent is.

We look forward to hearing more from this young man. Please share.
