When you live in close quarters, and your neighbor leaves the drapes open, things like “MyNeighboursDog” happen. A little backstory is in order. The scene is Amsterdam. A person living the good life glances out their window only to see a dog living a better life. In a neighboring home, a window shows the staircase. The vicarious neighbor notices a stairlift carrying their neighbor’s dog moving slowly from one level to the next.

Thus, an obsession was born. The neighbor’s dog fascinates the watcher. It’s not a creepy and stalkerish fascination, but it was enough to record the scene and post it on TikTok. A new video of the dog riding calmly on the stairlift is posted almost daily. Sometimes, the dog is going up, up, up. Other times, he is going down.
The owner noticed her dog’s sullen expression quickly on TikTok. Figuring it might be time for formal introductions, she made a brief video introducing Eddie to the world. The neighbor’s dog owner is Gwen van Poorten. She enjoys a moderate following on TikTok, where she gives general tips for makeup and healthy living. The introduction video is hilarious, offering a different POV.
The caption, in Dutch, translates to, “’Check @gwenvanpoorten for the other POV’ under the latest video from @MyNeighboursDog so the whole world can see who our Eddie is… #myneighboursdog.” Not everyone would be OK with finding out that the inside of their home appears in several viral videos. Gwen took it in stride and seems to be enjoying the notoriety.
One thing is certain about all this: animals like Eddie improve the world. We’re glad that Gwen is willing to share him with us.
Please share if you love Eddie.
