Nicole Kidman Mother

Death is one of life’s greatest mysteries. Even if we know that death is looming, there never seems to be enough time. When we suddenly lose a loved one, the shock can be positively heartbreaking. After someone close to us dies, our perspective on life and how we choose to live may change. Nicole Kidman faced a similar awakening after her mother passed away this past fall. The actress had no idea their last conversation would be their final exchange, but the words her mother said profoundly impacted the way she lives her life today.

Nicole Kidman’s Mother Wanted Her Daughter To Practice Self Care

She told CBS Sunday Morning she’d planned to visit her mother shortly before her sudden death, but her mom advised her to wait.

“I was going to get on a plane and go back to see her,” Nicole said. “And she was like, ‘Maybe wait a minute. Because I think, you know, you just need to take care of yourself right now, Nikki.’”

She added that since her mother’s death, she’s taken her words to heart.

“I say that to other people in the world, and particularly women,” Nicole explained. “I think we tend not to take care of ourselves. We’ll take care of everybody else, but the last person is here.”

Nicole Kidman added that losing her mother caused her tremendous pain that she’s given herself the grace to experience.

“I love when people say, ‘There’s no limit to your grief,’” she said. “You don’t have to have a time limit on it. You don’t have to be all better by this time. So you’re allowed to constantly let it pass through in waves.”

When her mother passed, Nicole shared a sweet message from her family on Instagram.

She wrote, “My sister and I along with our family want to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week. Every message we have received from those who loved and admired our mother has meant more to us than we will ever be able to express. Thank you from our whole family for respecting our privacy as we take care of each other.”
