Sergeant Joe (Joey) Johnson met the love of his life, Michelle, at a country music concert in Indiana. However, Joey was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from his time serving in Afghanistan (before he met Michelle). Trying to treat the affects of PTSD, he started riding motorcycles, using that as way to to get a rush. But that led to something much more serious. Just 4 months after meeting Michelle, Joey got in a horrible accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down.

The accident was a definite test for the couple’s relationship, but they stayed strong and never stopped supporting each other. Michelle was by Joey’s side as he experienced the struggles of adjusting to life in a wheelchair. In a way, this test was also a gift. It strengthened their relationship and because of that, the pair decided to get married. Joey had his own special surprise planned for Michelle… and it was a tear-jerker.
With the help of his groomsmen and a special harness, Joey was able to stand eye to eye with Michelle during their first dance. The whole room was silent, and yes, everyone was crying. What a beautiful moment for an amazing couple!
