Pediatrician Comes Up With The Best Vending Machine For Little Patients!

There was a time, long ago when children were rewarded for good behavior with a small lollipop. This happened at the doctor’s, dentist’s, and other places. As dentists became more aware of the effects of sugar on teeth, they switched to stickers and tiny toys. Kids stuck the stickers in Mom’s car or ate the toys, then cried. Those “great ideas” went away, and parents rejoiced. Coaxing a reluctant child to “trust” a doctor or dentist can be daunting. However, a pediatrician has installed a new “reward” vending machine in his office, which is genius.

BOOKS! A timeless reward that won’t ruin smiles but does create them! When a child has a good appointment with the pediatrician, they get a coin to use in the vending machine. The machine is filled with books for various age ranges. Toddlers can select board books, while older children can choose books that fit their reading ability.

Whether parents read to their children or the children can read themselves, this reward is always a win-win. Parents don’t have to stop reading to their children just because they have learned to read.

Numerous studies show that hearing stories enhances a child’s visual imagery, comprehension, and learning new words. Reading also helps children develop socially and emotionally. Reading to young children leads to lower levels of aggression, attention deficit issues, and hyperactivity. Regarding communication, reading helps children better understand how to convey their feelings through words.

Kudos to this pediatrician for offering a vending machine full of books as a reward system! This is a perfect way to provide tangible rewards with no tears.
