For millions of people, Phil Collins and Genesis made them fall in love with music. For decades, Phil’s incomparable voice and incredible drumming ability made him a staple in the soft rock genre. But at 74, Phil no longer beats on the drums and isn’t doing much singing due to significant health challenges in the last few years. Phil returned from playing the drums in 2022 and said recently he doesn’t feel the urge to sing.

He told MOJO Magazine, “”I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens. But I’m not hungry for it anymore,” he explained. “The thing is, I’ve been sick. I mean very sick.”
Due To His Health, It’s Been Years Since Phil Collins Released Any New Music
Phil toured with Genesis for the final time in 2022. While on tour, Phil filmed the documentary Phil Collins: Dummer First. He said in the film, things changed significantly for him, and he doesn’t have the passion he once did.
“If I can’t do what I did as well as I did it, I’d rather relax and not do anything,” Phil explained. “If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks then I will have a crack at it. I just feel like I’ve used up my air miles.”
But it’s not all doom and gloom. Phil may not have music in his life the same way, but he does have other blessings. Phil Collins’ daughter, Lily Collins, and her husband, Charlie McDowell, welcomed their daughter, Tove Jane McDowell, via surrogacy. Lily enjoys motherhood and is doing her best to ensure Tove knows her grandpa Phil Collins’ music.
She posted an Instagram video singing a Genesis hit to her baby girl. “Imagine listening to your grandpa’s music, and your grandpa is Phil Collins,” a fan shared.
