If you’ve ever seen an episode of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, you know a little bit about Will Smith. Obviously, he’s from West Philadelphia, born and raised, and on the playground is where he spent most of his days. He’s proud to be from the City of Brotherly Love. His hometown is equally happy to call Will their own. On March 26, Will Smith went home to Philly, where the city renamed a portion of 59th Street after him.

From his roots of being born and raised in West Philadelphia to his rise as a global superstar, he’s shown us all what it means to dream big and work hard.”

As we rename 2000 N. 59th Street in Will’s honor today, let’s celebrate everything he represents—creativity, kindness, and the power of community.”
He shared his own Instagram post that reads, “Philly, I am yours. This is the honor of a lifetime.”
DJ Jazzy Jeff slid into the comments congratulating his friend, “Super Congrats…they needed to name Wynnefield after you…A street is not big enough. Love you, bro.”
