It can be difficult to get kids to pose nicely for the camera, but for photographer Brooke Light, it’s not a priority. In her opinion, it’s more important to capture them at their most authentic. That’s why she doesn’t pressure kids to smile during her photoshoots. She wants them to know that they don’t have to put on an act in order to be beautiful!

Brooke’s unique approach to portrait photography has proved especially helpful for one of her clients. 13-year-old Kennedy was extremely self-conscious about her eyes, which sometimes tended to bulge due to her Graves’ disease. She hated having her picture taken and was often driven to tears during family portrait sessions. However, when the teen saw herself through Brooke’s lens, it made her feel more confident.
