Chad Tavernia is a retired New York State police investigator who uses high-tech drone equipment for a noble purpose. He flies his drone on missions to locate missing dogs and reunite them with their owners. The thermal-sensing drone can cover a great deal of area in challenging terrain to find lost animals. The puppy, Aurora, had been missing for about 36 hours. The area was under deep snow, and temperatures were frigid. It took Chad 90 minutes to find the puppy in a large field. She was in a small indent and seemed to have a chill. Once found, Chad can activate a microphone on the drone and talk to the missing dog to coax them toward their waiting owners.
Watching the process unfold is heartwarming. Chad tracks Aurora from where he found her, through a wooded area, to her owners. He communicates with pet owners to coordinate the location and guide them to their missing pet.
The service isn’t cheap, but the safe return of a family member is priceless. Chad charges $300 per rescue, which covers his time and the equipment. In two months, he has helped in locating and returning seven pets. Chad currently works in upstate New York. This seems to be a perfect fit for the retired law enforcement officer. Other drone operators have pet finder services to locate missing dogs.
Two drone operators in Crystal Lake, near Chicago, worked together to locate Charlie, a Great Bernese Mountain Dog. Charlie got out, was hit by a car, and was lying down in tall grass with a broken leg. The owners called in the drones after searching for seven days.
