There are several types of puffers, and each requires specific care. Please do adequate research if you decide to keep these personable animals in your home tank. At Oh My Puff, Pufferfish & Aquariums, they specialize in helping aquarium owners with the care and upkeep of pufferfish. You can visit their Amazon store to shop for all the necessary items.

In the meantime, back to the fun stuff. Gilbert is a quirky Topaz pufferfish. Gilbert’s keeper taped wrapping paper to the outside of his tank to begin the wrapping paper challenge. The paper was a gingham pattern with red trucks carrying Christmas trees. Once the paper was hung, they tore a round hole between two trucks.

Pufferfish are highly intelligent, so it didn’t take long for Gilbert to get curious. The hole perfectly framed his cute little face as he swam up and posed. His tiny fish lips broke into a smile. No, that didn’t happen, but we can imagine it with all the adorableness that did happen. Gilbert was waiting for his big break via this pufferfish photoshoot.

Pufferfish get their name from their elastic skin and ability to inflate like a balloon. They are usually small fish but can get three to five times that size when inflated. They have venom in their skin that can cause a mild tingling reaction to death. Dolphins response to the toxins is euphoric (they get high, in layman’s terms). Dolphins sometimes inflate pufferfish and toss them around the pod intentionally.

Please share Gilbert’s happy pufferfish photoshoot.
