While quarantine has been hard on many of us, it’s especially challenging for residents of senior living centers.

Because they’re among those most vulnerable to COVID-19, they aren’t able to have visitors, which can lead to loneliness. Thankfully, the sense of community we all need is just a click or phone call away!

Back in April, the marketing firm Luckie created a daily online radio show called “Radio Recliner” for Bridge Senior Living, which has facilities all over the U.S.
They wanted to help seniors connect with their loved ones and each other without having to leave their rooms, so they transformed willing residents into DJs!

Here’s how it works: Residents can call into the show to request and dedicate songs, or they can send in recorded messages and stories to be played during transitions. They can also sign up to be a “resident DJ” by calling 855-863-0050.
“For this generation, radio was the original social media,” said Mitch Bennett, the station’s creator and Luckie’s chief creative officer. “Dedicating a song to someone you love and having them hear it along with everyone else is a special way of connecting. It’s a great time to bring that feeling back.”

What’s more, you don’t have to be a Bridge Senior Living resident to listen in! That means family members, friends, and even strangers can connect over the airwaves.
“One thing that’s really nice about it, we ask each DJ to share some advice with other seniors on how to cope with this, and the things they have said are really inspiring,” Mitch added.

What a fantastic way to bring people together! While quarantine is challenging, resources like this are helping us through. We can’t wait to tune in for their next show!
