Random Stranger Delights Runners In NYC Marathon In Hilariously Specific Way

View of bystanders cheering on runners in the 2024 NYC Marathon. The person holding the camera uses their one free hand to hold up a sign we can't see from this angle. A friend next to her does the same. He smiles wide, laughing, as he looks back at her. The runners run past nearby

If you ask anyone who has ever participated in a marathon, they’re sure to tell you that it was a blast. That said, most won’t deny that it’s also quite the challenge. There’s lots to do in order to prep for the big day. Then there’s actually getting through the 26.2-mile course. For those who enter the NYC Marathon, winners could take home as much as $100,000 in prize money. But whether you win or not, it truly is all about the journey.

Speaking of the journey, the runners aren’t the only folks worth talking about. On the sidelines, you’ll often find some of the most creative, supportive folks. In fact, it’s becoming more common for total strangers to show up with encouraging signs for those in the marathon. Odds are, though, you’ve never seen signs quite like the ones Blake and his friends made recently. See for yourself in the video below!

Turns out, this fun group didn’t need to personally know anyone in the NYC Marathon to show support. Because so many people named John entered, they were able to show love to quite a few of the 50,000 people who participated.

Best of all, this support for Johns had to have felt oddly personal, despite the fact they don’t know these people. You can tell by the way their eyes light up as they pass by the group of friends. What a cool way to spread love and positivity!

“I’m gutted that this will never happen to me because I have an unusual name. And will never run a marathon,” someone in the comment section of the video admits, with one of the Johns adding, “This was one of my favorite moments of the marathon!!! Thank you!!!”
