Family Returns Dog To Shelter, But Little Girl Gives Workers Tear-Jerking Letter With Instructions.

As any pet-owner knows, it can take no time at all for a dog to become part of the family. So when a family decided that they needed to return their 3-year-old Brindle Boxer to the Humane Society of Utah, it was understandably difficult for everyone.

The family had lived with the dog–named Rhino Lightning–for about 5 months, and they loved him dearly, but they knew he wasn’t the right fit for them. As a family with 4 human kids, they just weren’t able to keep up with the energetic pup. “They felt that he was a little too rambunctious with their small children,” said the director of marketing and communications for the Humane Society.

When the family returned to the Humane Society, the family’s youngest daughter presented the shelter staff with a kid-sized notepad.

Inside the notepad was the most precious note ever, written for Rhino’s future family.

Hi, If you are reading this, you must own Rhino now. He was my puppy. I really hope he is in a good environment. I really miss him. I wish he knew that he was a pretty puppy.

She gave the new family instructions on how often to take him for runs and for his baths.

Rhino is a good dog and he loves cuddles. Just don’t tease him with treats. He will start to bark like crazy, then you have to just try and calm him.

His full name is Rhino Lightning then your last name. Please don’t rename him.

Finally, the little girl ends her letter with a final instruction: tell Rhino I love him.

Rhino is a striped dream. His cheeks make a lot of slobber. Please tell Rhino that I love and miss him every night.

Rhino was only at the shelter for one weekend before he was adopted by a family with older kids better equipped to handle an energetic puppy. And don’t worry, they said they didn’t just take Rhino home with them, they also took the note.

The family plans to follow every one of the girl’s instructions.
