If you saw a robber trying to steal from an elderly man, what would you do? For many of us, our reaction would be to freeze in place. But that isn’t the case for Nick Grant. On the contrary, he was quick to intervene when a robber attempted to steal from an elderly customer. Just as the robber started to walk away with the customer’s backpack, he tried to reach for it.

In turn, the robber sprayed the poor man with bear mace, something that is not intended for humans. But that’s all this robber had the chance to do before Nick pushed a cart into him, momentarily getting him away from the customer. From here, the two battled until Nick could keep him securely held down. Watch the moment this brave barista stops a robber in the harrowing video below.
Heroic Barista Braves Through Bear Mace and Successfully Stops a Robber
Nick was able to keep the man down until police arrived. Now, the robber is booked in jail for attempted robbery and other charges related to the incident. Meanwhile, Nick felt a bit rough after the fight but, overall, his spirits were high.
“I’m a little sore this morning. I’m still coughing out bear mace. But I’m good,” Nick shares. “I’m not going to let anybody like that stop me from doing what I love.”
Although Nick is a barista now, he has a background in security and combat training. This experience, no doubt, came in handy for this ordeal. Even still, Nick hopes others can get inspired to intervene when possible, too.
“I’m just happy I was there,” he says. “You know it’s one of those things that folks can look away in certain situations, or you can have the moment to act, and I want people to feel more empowered to act.”
