Nearly a week has passed since deadly fires ignited in California. At the time of this article being written, there are still three active fires: Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst. As a result, over 100,000 people are under evacuation orders. And with winds expected to increase this week, firefighters will no doubt be working extra hard in order to extinguish the remaining flames.

Only time will tell the extent of the damage these wildfires will leave behind. But now that we are days into some of the most destructive wildfires in California’s history, we are starting to get a better idea. This comes, in part, from newly captured satellite images. In the video below, you can see heartbreaking before and after photos of areas the wildfires have impacted.

Even when these images are shown back to back, it is hard to believe they are the same places. As others have pointed out, the “after” images eerily resemble war zones. Amid all of this devastation, more than ever, folks are clinging on to hope. Finding hope during tragedy can be difficult.
But thankfully, lots of heroic people are showing up to help this week. That includes this firefighter who went out of his way to rescue a horse.
