When celebrating a big event, often, what matters most is that the people we love are there with us. This includes our family and friends, of course, but what about our favorite celebrities? Fans have been known to invite celebs to all sorts of occasions, like weddings or graduations. Many times, these celebs are a bit too busy to attend. That’s why it’s all the more awesome that Selena Gomez actually responded to one high school’s request for her to sing the national anthem.

The sign, which can be seen below, was created by Telluride Middle/High School’s volleyball team in Colorado. With it, they politely requested that the actor and singer sing the national anthem at one of their home games. Luckily for them, Gomez just so happened to be in town that weekend for the Telluride Film Festival. As a result, the superstar chose to take the time to surprise these teenagers… see their reaction to her showing up in the video below!

Once Gomez walks inside, it takes a moment for folks to realize she’s there. That’s because, despite requesting her to attend, they likely didn’t have high hopes for her actually showing up. But as soon as someone spots her, they call out, “Selena!” From here, it doesn’t take long for a crowd to form around her — not that Gomez minds!
Colorado High School Volleyball Team Invites Selena Gomez to Perform the National Anthem at a Home Game… and She Responds!
Gomez did not end up performing for the students, but it’s clear that none of them minded. Rather than getting a performance, they were able to spend time with the star. As a result, students were able to get photos with Gomez, many of which can be found online.
“They asked!!” Gomez writes in a social media caption. “Couldn’t help it, it’s my first time in Telluride!”
Needless to say, these high schoolers just became even bigger fans of Selena Gomez after this delightful surprise!
