While enjoying homemade s’mores with her family, one little girl couldn’t help but think of her elderly neighbor. After returning from the hospital, the 86-year-old wasn’t able to get around on his own very well. Kinley wanted to do something nice for him, so she asked her parents if she could take one of the gooey campfire treats across the street. Mom was so proud of the young girl for thinking of others!

Lisa Aamot shared this story about her daughter on social media. In the sweet video, you can see the family roasting marshmallows over the fire on their patio. As soon as Kinley got the go-ahead to bring her neighbor a s’more, she ran over to his house excitedly. She couldn’t wait to see the look on his face!
“Our 86-year-old neighbor just got home from the hospital,” the mom wrote over the footage. “Kinley wondered when the last time was he got to sit by a campfire and then asked if she could bring him a s’more since he can’t walk over.”
After losing her own father to cancer, Lisa was feeling especially empathetic toward her elderly neighbor. She appreciated that her young daughter was so eager to brighten his day.
“My dad’s last campfire was Sept 2022,” she wrote in her social media caption. “Then the cancer spread to his bones. Hindsight is a heartbreak. I love Kinley’s heart so much.”
Commenters were so touched by this little girl’s kindness in sharing her family’s s’mores with their neighbor. Many added their own heartwarming stories about children making a difference in the lives of the elderly.
“My dad was in hospice at home in our living room, the neighborhood kids stood out front blowing bubbles for him,” one user wrote. “I’m going to remember that forever.”
Another added, “When my nana passed the neighbor’s kids went over and took all of the mail to the front door for Papa, and even refilled her bird feeder.”
It’s amazing how kind and thoughtful young children can be!
