“Side-Eyeing Chloe” Is A Thriving Teenager Today & It’s All Thanks To Her Meme!

Side Eyeing Chloe

When Katie Clem uploaded a YouTube video surprising her daughters with a Disney trip in 2013, she never could have imagined what would happen next. Her 7-year-old daughter, Lily, couldn’t contain her excitement, but 2-year-old Chloe was less than impressed. A screenshot of Chloe side-eyeing her mother became one of the most famous memes on the planet. Trust us, we’ve sent Chloe’s disapproving face plenty of times in the family group chat. It’s sometimes hard to understand that memes are real people, and having your face plastered all over the internet can be overwhelming. The family sold the image in 2021, and the money changed their life.

Katie told People, “10 years ago, we were so poor. This happened to us and we’re like, ‘What? We can pay bills. We can upgrade our tiny apartment for the four of us.’ It was real-world issues,” the Tennessee resident explains. “That money literally helped us survive for a decade. Every ounce of the money, aside from saving it and putting it away, was helping us get through our life. Rent, bills, food.”

Chole’s Side-Eyeing Fame Was Fun For A While

Katie told People, “In the beginning, it was really fun … You just hop on this train and you say yes to everything,” she said. “I did not include my kids’ consent at all in the beginning. We just did it because you get wrapped up in all of the things.”

Katie added, “Eventually, it got too much with my kids, and I just felt like no one was benefiting from it.”

Katie said she realized all the attention on her family wasn’t the direction she wanted to go and eventually stopped posting on YouTube. Today, Chloe’s a teenager who looks nothing like her former self. She doesn’t get recognized like she did, but side-eyeing Chloe has a permanent place in pop culture history.

“I’m in the What Do You Meme game, so I would always bring my card from that game to show people,” Chloe told People. “It’s super cool.”
