“Signing Our Wedding Song To My Deaf Husband”

Image shows a wife with her deaf husband.

Robert and Maggie Haney’s love story began when they met in 2016. They recently made it official with a formal wedding on March 22, 2025. They were together and raising two children, Robbie and Mimi, but were just not married. The couple is still very much in love. Maggie wanted to make sure Robert knew how she felt the other day. She “sang” their marriage song to him using American Sign Language (ASL) because her husband is deaf.

The song Thank God by Kane Brown and Katelyn Brown was released in 2022 on their album Different Man. Maggie’s smile as she signs the lyrics speaks volumes. She figuratively shouts her love for Robert in the silence.

Using ASL to “sing” is becoming more mainstream. Many musical artists, such as Pink, are beginning to use an ASL interpreter during their concerts. Even though deaf people may not hear the music, they can feel the beat. Adding the words with an ASL interpreter helps deaf people experience the joy of their concerts. In the same manner, Maggie “sings” to her deaf husband, Robert.

The family recently made a hand casting to signify the importance of their hands. Using a large bucket of silicon mold material, the family put their hands into goo, which created a soft mold. Next, they mixed the plaster and poured it into the mold. After 24 hours, they had a plaster cast of their joined hands.
