Snoopy and the Peanuts Gang debuted on October 2, 1950. The cartoon strip, drawn by Charles M. Schulz, is a favorite of children and adults. The last comic strip was published on February 13, 2000. Television specials for some holidays have entertained families since the mid-1960s. As one of the children raised in a Peanuts Gang household, I will add the Snoopy Museum to my bucket list.

The official name of the Snoopy Museum is the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center. The facility is in Santa Rosa, California, where Charles “Sparky” Schulz made his home. When the museum opened in 2002, the cartoonist’s wife, Jean Schulz, made an introduction video.

Jean discusses Sparky’s life while he was drawing the cartoon strip. She explains why they selected Santa Rosa as the home of the Snoopy Museum. In addition to TV holiday shows, the “Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show” aired from 1983 to 1985 on CBS. Another short-lived series, This Is America, Charlie Brown,” aired in 1988 and 1989. The strip was also the basis for several full-length movies.

The characters remind us of people in our own lives. PigPen was always dirty, even after having a bath. Schroeder was a musician, playing classical music on his toy piano. Lucy was a budding psychiatrist offering “life advice” for five cents. Linus, Lucy’s younger brother, always carried a security blanket. The Snoopy Museum captures the adventures of each iconic character, including Snoopy and Woodstock.

When you visit the Snoopy Museum, you will marvel at the sights. The facility has original drawings, Sparky’s work area, life-sized statues of the characters, and much more.

Please share if you love Charlie Brown and Snoopy, too.
