When the Northern Lights Make an Unexpected Appearance in Maine, This Family is Left Speechless

You may have noticed an increase in sightings of the northern lights this year — and there’s a reason for that! Turns out, the sun is in “solar maximum.” In other words, the sun is at the peak of its solar cycle, something that happens around every decade. As a result, the sun’s solar flares are larger than ever, making the northern lights more visible in more locations.

You may have also noticed that the northern lights can vary greatly in color. According to experts, altitude impacts the color greatly. But no matter if the northern lights are in shades of green, pink, blue, or purple, they will always take our breath away!
