A chilling incident led to a heroic rescue when an 8-year-old girl fell through the ice into a freezing pond! Thankfully, Vermont State Trooper Michelle Archer was on the scene in no time. She rushed into the water, bringing the drowning child safely back to the shore. Another state trooper carried the girl the rest of the way to the ambulance, which was ready and waiting to take her to the hospital.

According to the Associated Press, the little girl and her younger sister were playing on the ice when it suddenly broke beneath them. It’s a good thing the owner of the property was there at the time! This quick-thinking 80-year-old was able to rescue the smaller of the two girls from the pond. When they couldn’t get to the second child, they called 911. Vermont state troopers arrived in under five minutes!
Once State Trooper Michelle Archer rescued the 8-year-old from the from the frozen pond, emergency responders drove her to University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. After treatment, the little girl was sent home. Now, she’s doing just fine!
If there’s one thing we can take away from this brave rescue, it’s not to wander out onto a frozen pond. Thin ice can be extremely dangerous! It must have been such a relief to the rescued girls’ family that the elderly homeowner and emergency responders stepped in.
