Store Runs Out Of Wife’s Favorite Cake, So Husband Has To Improvise!

A man smiles wide as he carries something he's hiding behind a towel

Do you have a favorite birthday tradition? For many of us, a delicious cake absolutely makes or breaks the day. There are all kinds to enjoy, of course, but there’s one cake in particular that’s especially popular in the UK. That cake is Colin the Caterpillar. Created in 1990 by retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S), this caterpillar-shaped treat quickly became a household staple. While I can’t speak to how it tastes, the adorable appearance alone makes it easy to understand why it became so popular!

So, when it comes to birthdays, Colin the Caterpillar often makes an appearance. That is certainly the case for the Donnelly household. Mom in particular always has one to celebrate her big day. That’s why, when the store did not have a single one on her latest birthday, her husband was quick to find a clever solution. See his heartwarming surprise in the video below.

Sure, this husband could have found a replacement for the cake — it probably would have been just as delicious! Instead, he took the time and effort to recreate the cake his wife deserves. How thoughtful and adorable is that? You can tell his effort means the world to her.

Plus, he actually did a really good job at replicating the cake! Check out an image of the official Colin the Caterpillar below to properly compare them.

“It’s a Pikachu caterpillar cake!” someone in the comment section points out, with another adding, “Not me crying over a caterpillar cake at 8 AM.”

“A literal ‘If he wanted to he would’ [moment]. What a sweetie!” a third person shares. “Some people just don’t understand it’s the effort given and not the money spent!”
