Ron Nessman decided to change his life earlier this year. Making that decision potentially saved the life of a baby boy.

Suffering from depression after the loss of a loved one, Ron was homeless for eight years before moving in with his sister in the San Bernardino Valley of California a few months ago. Since then, he’s been trying to get a job to get back on his feet.
“I decided to get right,” Ron explained. “If you want something different in your life, you do something different and that’s where I am at today. I thank my sister for helping me out. She’s always been there for me.”
Ron was at a job interview for a dishwashing job at Applebee’s in Hesperia recently, putting him in exactly the right place at the right time. As he was leaving the restaurant, he spotted a baby stroller with an infant inside rolling straight toward a busy highway.
Security footage of the incident looks like something out of a terrifying movie. A woman was babysitting her nephew when she forgot to put the baby stroller’s parking brake on. As she leaned into her car to grab something, the wind caught the stroller and pushed it toward Bear Valley Road, where cars whizzed by at 50 to 55 mph.
The aunt tried to run after the stroller, but fell instantly and couldn’t get up in time. That’s when Ron came flying out of nowhere to grab the stroller mere seconds before it reached the street.
Ron’s sister, Donna Gunderson, was waiting at a nearby café when she heard the woman’s screams for help. She says her “heart dropped” when she saw the stroller heading straight for traffic. When she saw her brother come to the baby’s rescue, she was incredibly relieved.
Ron says he’s glad he was there at the perfect time, admitting he “wouldn’t want to see the end result” if he hadn’t been there. The baby was unharmed, and though the aunt was shaken up and suffered injuries to her knees, she’ll be okay!
This story has a truly happy ending for all involved: Applebee’s gave Ron the job when they heard about his lifesaving actions right outside their door! We hope this is the beginning of a new chapter for this Good Samaritan.
