“Stranger Things” Creators Give New Update On Spinoff Rumors

Stranger Things Spinoff

It’s hard to believe Stranger Things is coming to an end after the fifth season. It’s been a nostalgic, albeit spooky, trip back to a simpler time when malls and video games ruled the world. We didn’t need cellphones and cyber trucks back then. A bike and a walkie-talkie were enough to get us through. Some of us aren’t quite ready to say goodbye to Hawkins, Indiana, quite yet. The rumor mill’s been spinning about a Stranger Things spinoff for quite some time, and the Duffer Brothers finally have something to say about it.

We Won’t See A Stranger Things Spinoff In The Traditional Sense

According to Parade, Matt and Ross Duffer were presented with a Variety Showrunner Award at this year’s SCAD TVfest. During a panel discussion, the moderator touched on the upcoming Broadway show Stranger Things: The First Shadow and asked the Duffer Brothers about pursuing the Stranger Things storyline.

Matt said, “We’re taking it one step at a time.”

“We don’t wanna rush anything.” Ross then explained, “We don’t wanna just do something just to do it, or for commercial reasons. We want it to have a real reason to exist and something that we’re all excited about.”

Ross went on to crush many fans dreams. “This story, these characters’ stores, that’s done,” he said. “That whole story is coming to an end. There’s not like a Steve/Dustin spinoff or something like that.”

But that doesn’t mean an end completely. The characters and story line will wrap up at the end of the final season of Stranger Things, but a spinoff could happen. It might not just be the way some fans imagined.

Matt said, “The hope is that we finish telling this story. And then you leave it and tell new stories. And hopefully, there are new characters that people can fall in love with.”
