Suni Lee’s Uneven Bars Routine Gets The Olympic Bronze!

Suni Lee Bronze Uneven Bars

The US women’s gymnastics team is having quite the run at the Paris Summer Olympics, and Suni Lee just made it even better by adding a bronze to their medal count with her stunning uneven bars routine.

The 21-year-old earned the medal while competing in the individual finals on Sunday, August 4, which brought her Paris Games count to three. Suni also took home a gold when USA won the team all-around and another bronze for the individual all-around.

For her individual uneven bars, she scored 14.800 and was the only US gymnast to medal. The gold went to Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour, who earned 15.700. China’s Qiyuan Qiu took the silver with 15.500.

The feat was particularly special for Suni after an undisclosed medical condition nearly took her out of the sport completely.

A Kidney Condition Nearly Kept Suni Lee From The 2024 Summer Games

In 2023, the gymnast announced that she was dropping out of Auburn University early due to an undisclosed kidney illness. That September, the same condition kept her from the world championship team selection camp.

Fortunately, doctors found medications to manage her symptoms in January, and she was able to get back to training with hopes of making the 2024 team.

“There were so many times when I thought about quitting and just giving up because I was so sick,” she admitted while talking to Today. “But once I had those people around me who lifted me up and supported me and just made sure that I was good, I knew that this is something I wanted.”

Suni Lee has one more event during the Paris Summer Olympics. On Monday, Aug 5, she will compete in the balance beam finals along with teammate Simone Biles. Tune into Peacock or your local NBC channel to watch.
