Erica Quale is an 8th grade social studies teacher at Wachter Middle School in Bismarck, North Dakota. She’s a teacher who specializes in “making U.S. history relevant to students’ lives.” She leads her students on a trip to Washington, D.C. every year and is active in her community. Her students absolutely love the way she brings history to life, and they clearly learn a lot from her. In 2019, 99.9% of her students aced the state’s civics exam.
Erica was recently surprised at work with an incredible honor: A Milken Educator Award. Only 60 teachers nationwide are selected for this top prize, and she’s the only recipient in North Dakota. This award is sometimes called the “Oscars of teaching,” and it comes with a $25,000 prize!
Congratulations, Erica! Watch the video below to see the moment Erica hears that she won, and don’t forget to share.
