It’s been 18 years since we tragically lost Steve Irwin, the beloved Australian wildlife conservationist. After all this time, his family continues to honor his legacy, as well as the work he was oh-so passionate about. His wife, Terri Irwin, has never been one to shy away from talking about him. In fact, the entire family is happy to find ways to incorporate him into their lives, and the lives of fans, in new ways.

This is a topic Terri touched on during a recent interview. It took place on a podcast called Wiggle Talk and is led by Simon and Lachy, members of The Wiggles, a popular kids musical group. This podcast, however, is for the parents of their group. While chatting with Terri, the topic of grief came up. This offered her the chance to explain that, despite how popular it is to say that “time heals all wounds,” she doesn’t agree. Hear why she feels that way in the video below.
@thewiggles On this week’s episode of the Wiggle Talk podcast, Simon and Lachy are joined by very special guest Terri Irwin, for a discussion about grief, love, and what happens when your family dynamic suddenly changes. What happens when your family dynamic changes suddenly, and how do you help your kids navigate when someone isn’t around anymore, whether it’s through divorce, death or they’ve moved on from your life? Terri Irwin is someone who has been through this situation. The matriarch of the Irwin family, a world-renowned conservationist, owner of Australia Zoo and a mum, who had to help her two kids, @Bindi Irwin and @Robert Irwin through an unimaginable loss, while also grieving herself. So how do you get through that? And what advice does she have for people finding themselves in a similar situation? Terri is a remarkable woman and shares her wisdom with us in this episode. Grief, according to Terri, never truly goes away. Instead, it’s something that shapes you with time. And, eventually, she says that it becomes “a companion rather than an all-consuming feeling.” The reason why is because there is some grief “you never really get over” — and that’s okay.
Losing someone, whether through death, divorce, or some other way, is never easy. These types of losses can shape us in permanent ways, no matter how much time passes. But Terri notes that what does change, however, is the way you find joy in life, too. This message has brought comfort to so many who relate.
Terri Irwin Gets Vulnerable When Discussing How Grief Changes With Time
“I tried to remember this when I lost my son. The grief doesn’t shrink, we simply grow around it,” one person shares in the comment section of the video, with another adding, “My grandma was a widow for 55 years, and she never stopped missing grandpa, but she lived a whole life after he was gone, and it was a good life.”
“One day you will talk about them and instead of crying at the loss you will smile because you are grateful for the memories you have together to reflect on and share,” a third person writes. “Hold on, you will be okay.”
