Teen Creates Stunning Prom Dress Out Of Duct Tape — And It Saves Her Thousands!

A teen smiles wide as she stands near a dress she made from duck tape

Being creative can be so rewarding. This is true no matter if your craft is writing, drawing, dancing, or something else. But for a teen in Spearfish, South Dakota, one particularly unique endeavor earned her a college scholarship! Victoria Schoenherr has had her sights set on the University of Northern Colorado for some time. But let’s face it: Getting a degree is ridiculously expensive. That’s why she was on the hunt for fashion and design scholarships.

In the end, there was one that especially stood out the most: Duck Tape’s Stuck at Prom Scholarship contest. To win, folks were tasked to create stunning dresses made from, you guessed it, duct tape. If this sounds like a challenge, you’d be correct — but Victoria was more than willing to give it her best shot. And it’s a good thing she did! Not only did she manage to make a stunning dress, but she also won!

Creating this dress was no small feat. Despite her busy schedule with school, prom, and costume designing for a production of Guys and Dolls, Victoria somehow found 160 hours to create this masterpiece. In the end, she used 80 rolls of Duct tape.

“A lot of people seem to really like it which makes me so happy,” Victoria shares, later adding, “I’m very project-based. I say I’m like a border collie. If I don’t have a project to do I start to eat furniture, like I need to do something so I totally see myself do a big silly project at some point again.”
