“Tell Me A Time Your Kids Embarrassed You So Bad You Felt Like You Could Never Go Out In Public Again”

A woman covers her face with her hands, embarrassed. She sits in a colorful, patterned chair. A social media comment is edited onto the photo and reads: My daughter is an only child. But calls her baby dolls her “sisters”. She told a lady in Target I left her baby sister in the car. Mid July in SC. Police were waiting for me when I got to check out.

We tend to hear a lot about how embarrassing parents can be to their kids (for good reason, to be fair). That said, the opposite can be true as well. A huge reason has to do with the fact that most kids have little to no filter. They really will say whatever pops into their head at any moment. Sometimes, this leads to uncontrollable belly laughter. Other times, however, these unfiltered moments can be… well, rather horrifying.

So horrifying, in fact, that they leave parents thinking, “I can never go out in public again.” Luckily for parents everywhere, if you’ve had this thought, you’re far from alone. Want more specific (and hilarious) proof? Check out some of the best embarrassing moments some parents shared online. (Just as a word of caution, the original post contains a few NSFW stories, should you choose to read more yourself.)

1. There is absolutely no shame in having mental health struggles.

Comment from scuderiajane: During the Barbie movie when they showed depression Barbie my daughter shouted “mommy it’s you!” People around us laughed so loud smh.
TikTok

That said, most people do have a preferred time and place when sharing the details.

2. You never know when an educational moment will present itself.

Comment from LoveisLaw: My son (then 5) pointed at a Mennonite man in a parking lot and said “look Momma, a Pilgrim”!! So loud. People in the parking lot also looked for the Pilgrim.
TikTok

Well… at least he knows now.

3. The rules that parents enforce apply to everyone, right?

Comment from banderson53: “MY MOM SAID YOU ARENT ALLOWED TO WEAR PAJAMAS IN WALMART” to the woman wearing Cookie Monster pajama pants
TikTok

This memory will be replaying in Mom’s head at night before bed for the unforeseeable future.

4. Isn’t it cool how words can have multiple meanings?

Comment from Pamela Melanie: My daughter was on a field trip with her preschool & announced to everyone that she lived in a crack house….because the ceiling had a crack in it.
TikTok

So cool and not inconvenient, right?

5. As a parent, there’s nothing like the relief of finally going home after grocery shopping with your kids!

Comment from Lsteeny: My daughter is an only child. But calls her baby dolls her “sisters”. She told a lady in Target I left her baby sister in the car. Mid July in SC. Police were waiting for me when I got to check out.
TikTok

Unless something like that happens.

6. This… this is a rough one.

Comment from Jessica Daves: We encountered someone who didn’t have many teeth and my daughter asked “how much money did you get from the tooth fairy”
TikTok

Here’s hoping that this kid learned a lot about teeth after that one.

7. You ever see a bowl of cheese and want a whole handful?

Comment from Tiffany Kendall: "My daughter walked passed [sic] someone's table at the Mexican restaurant and stuck her entire hand in their queso."
TikTok

This kid is living your dream.

WOW. Having kids will really test your ability to withstand embarrassing moments, huh? It certainly helps that, much of the time, they do mean well. Plus, as this article has shown, even the cringiest situations can make for the best stories later. Sometimes much, much later… but later nonetheless!
