“Took Our Daughter To Texas Roadhouse So She Could Ride The Saddle… We Created A Monster”

Texas Roadhouse is a national chain family steak restaurant that offers an excellent date night experience for couples of any age. When it’s your birthday, they have a particular way to celebrate that, too. Jalen Rose and her husband decided to take their toddler there to celebrate her second birthday. Because hindsight is always 20/20, they realize now that introducing their daughter to the Texas Roadhouse saddle might have been a mistake.

What is the Texas Roadhouse saddle? It is a regular, leather, Western-style horse saddle mounted on a sturdy base resembling a sawhorse. A birthday person may opt to sit on the saddle for their meal. The special perch tells everyone who “knows” that you are celebrating a birthday. Employees may do a little song and dance, you might get a free dessert, and you will almost certainly get a loud “YEE-HAW!” from everyone in the restaurant.

The “YEE-HAW!” is a group activity that employees encourage all customers to join. Jalen Rose’s daughter was not interested in the song, dance, or free dessert. She was there for one thing and one thing only: to hear that “WEE-HAW!” After she heard everyone in the restaurant yelling, “YEE-HAW!” the smile on her face was unmistakable.

We hear you asking, “How does a big smile make this adorable cutie pie a monster?” It didn’t happen at the restaurant. However, since that night, the toddler wants a “Weehaw” everywhere!

The parents will call this period the “We should have known better Weehaw Tantrum Period.” When this child is a senior in high school, these images need to be included in the school yearbook.

Please share if you’ve ever had one of these parental hindsight moments.
