On Instagram, the Vatican shared a snapshot of Francis in the Gemelli Hospital’s private chapel, commemorating the Last Supper, as he sits in a wheelchair.
“The Holy See Press Office has released a picture of Pope Francis in prayer after concelebrating the Eucharist this morning. It’s the first to be released since the Pope’s [hospitalization] on 14 February,” reads the caption.
Pope Francis Appears To Be On The Mend
The post comes after several health crises, including a respiratory attack that left him on a ventilator, the development of steroid-induced diabetes, and slight kidney failure. The picture confirms a March 15 update that Pope Francis may be on the mend.
“The clinical condition of the Holy Father remains stable, confirming the progress observed in the past week,” reads the statement. High-flow oxygen therapy continues, progressively reducing the need for non-invasive mechanical ventilation during the night.”
“The Holy Father still requires hospital medical care, as well as physiotherapy and respiratory physiotherapy,” it continued. “These therapies are currently showing further, gradual improvements.”
