We don’t know about you, but if The Golden Girls is on, we’re watching. The classic sitcom brought together four of the most memorable female characters ever. Dorothy Zbornak, Blanche Devereaux, Rose Nylund, and Sophia Petrillo were sassy, classy, and smart. Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, Betty Davis, and Estelle Getty brought the women to life. It’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the iconic roles. But there have been rumors spinning that Tina Fey has her hands in a Golden Girls reboot, and it’s piquing people’s curiosity. Tina Fey Finally Addressed The “Golden Girls” Reboot Rumors
The rumor mill seemed to churn when a photo of Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph, and Lisa Kudrow began circulating as if they were the new Golden Girls. It appeared to be a promo shot for a new series on Disney+, but Tina said it was a really terrible fake.
Tina told Entertainment Tonight during a red-carpet interview, “Oh, this. I did know about this,” she said. “I like that this was fooling people.”
However, Tina was quick to criticize the image, which showed Lisa and Amy in wigs, and she and Maya looked like themselves.
“Like, why would we ever take a picture where Amy and Lisa Kudrow are in costume, but we’re not?” Tina joked. “If this fooled you, you might be a Boomer. And if you’re Gen X, and this fooled you, go to a hospital.”
Tina Fey said a Golden Girls reboot will never happen with her. And it’s not because she doesn’t love the show, she has too much respect for the iconic comedians who put the show on the map.
“I would never touch this. This is too perfect,” she told ET. “The original is … those ladies can’t be touched.”
We can just hear the girls now, “Thank you for being a friend, Tina.”
