Of the many country artists who performed at Toby Keith’s tribute concert in Nashville, none touched the audience quite as much as the late musician’s daughter. Krystal Keith chose to cover her father’s well-known song, Don’t Let the Old Man In. A talented country musician in her own right, she delivered a beautiful rendition of the emotional tune that would have made her dad very proud. She was clearly holding back tears as she sang.

Joining the late artist’s daughter for Toby Keith: American Icon at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena were many of country’s biggest names. American Songwriter tells us that Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, and Darius Rucker were just a few of the artists who took the stage that night. NBC will air a recording of the tribute concert on August 28 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. Although you’ll have to wait to watch the full televised version of Toby Keith: American Icon, someone at the concert caught a beautiful clip of the star’s daughter performing her father’s song.

Krystal’s decision to perform Don’t Let the Old Man In was a particularly meaningful one. According to American Songwriter, Toby Keith wrote this song for the 2018 film, The Mule, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood. Inspired by a conversation with the actor, the lyrics personify death as an old man. These words started to hit closer to home when the country singer announced that he’d been diagnosed with stomach cancer.

Toby Keith passed away on February 5, 2024. He’d been struggling with his illness for two years. Beloved by family and fans alike, this is one artist who has left behind a legacy to be proud of.
